Multi-Media Document Translation: Oda and the Express Project
Published in Hardcover by Springer Verlag (January, 1991)
Authors: Jonathan Rosenberg, Mark Sherman, Ann Marks, and Jaap Akkerhuis
Average review score:

Very dated.
This is a detailed report of a project recommending a specific format for markup languages. Unfortunately, one of the possible formats which they rejected before choosing ODA (Office Document Architecture) was SGML, thus the particulars of the work have been largely outdated by subsequent events. The report does offer some valuable critiques of SGML and its lack of document organization semantics.

Orphans of the Night
Published in Hardcover by Walker & Co (May, 1995)
Author: Josepha Sherman
Average review score:

Pretty Dull
Though this book seems like it might be scary and intriguing on the outside, it is really quite boring and the stories are hard to read without skimming. I would not recommend this book.

The South Platte (Rivers West, Vol. 18)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Bantam Books (October, 1998)
Author: Jory Sherman
Average review score:

Mind Capturing Book that Keeps you turning
Jory Sherman caprutes your imagination from the first page to the last. The story is absolutely great. I couldn't put the book down. It gives the reader a good look into how settlers and trappers had difficulties settling down and getting accustomed to the new surroundings and wildlife. We see how the lives of new settlers are affected by Indians. Jory Sherman presents his main characters as bold people, willing to explore what lays beyond their camps. He is an excellent author, causing a feeling of closeness to the characters in this book. We feel for Sheila and Davey as they attempt to overcome their problems. We can understand their pains and happiness. I would Suggest that anyone who likes old fashioned, historical settings to read this book. You will not be disappointed

The Ten Kings of the Sea
Published in Paperback by Idelson-Gnocchi Publishers (15 January, 2003)
Authors: Jacques Mayol, Carla Sherman, and Pierre Mayol
Average review score:

Less than expected....
I am a true admirer of Jacques Mayol, but this book is not as good as expected.

I am not sure what was the real participation of J. Mayol, may be this work is mainly due his brother Pierre.

The tale development is slow and it has a sudden end which makes little sense...

If you are a fan of Mayol, may be this book has a value as itself, ....

URBAN NIGHTMARES
Published in Paperback by Baen Books (November, 1997)
Author: Sherman & decandido
Average review score:

Completists Only
Surprisingly, although Josepha Sherman is the more prolific of the two "names" included in this anthology, Keith DeCandido's "How you can prevent forest fires..." is the much more accomplished work.

However, as the rest of the stories are the usual below-par "fillers" only fans of DeCandido or fanatics of Sherman should consider this.

Compound Interest Tables
Published in Paperback by NTC/Contemporary Publishing (February, 1982)
Author: Michael Sherman
Average review score:

Not very useful
This is a little book, only 125 pages, and that tells you that it does not contain a lot. Compounding is only monthly, quarterly, semiannually, and annually. Interest rates start at 5% and go up in big jumps--5,6,7,7.5,8, etc. to 20%. One can do better than this with a calculator on the internet.

Designing an Employee Stock Option Plan : A Practical Approach for the Entrepreneurial Company
Published in Paperback by Foundation for Enterprise Development (02 January, 2001)
Authors: Ron Bernstein, David Binns, Marshal Hyman, Martin Staubus, and Debra Sherman
Average review score:

Totally Worthless!
This book masquerades as a comprehensive guide to developing a stock option plan. In truth, it is a very basic overview of some of the topics surrounding stock option plans. When it attempts to walk through how one would actually go about creating a plan, it uses a hypothetical company and an executive named "Charlie". Sadly, whenever Charlie comes to difficult questions, no answer is given. For example, when discussing the question of valuing stock in a private company, the author's answer is to hire an outside consultant....Gee thanks! Beyond the single basic example give, no discussion of how or why certain decisions are to be made and rationalized. Another great example of this is in determining the number of shares to grant to employees and management. The answer given in the case study is that Charlie had "no process to determine these numbers"....wow, really insightful advice.....No plan at all, so when the executives ask you how you came up with the grant allocations, you can just tell them that you winged it, just like Charlie.

As you can tell, the authors couldnt even tackle simple issues like how many shares to grant, or the appropriate strike price,
and this is not even to mention REAL issues like compensating employees whose options are underwater. I guess Charlie didn't have this problem. I am totally embarassed to have bought this book, save your money and search the web for real-world advice.

John Sherman and Dhoya (Collected Works of William Butler Yeats)
Published in Library Binding by Classic Books (May, 2000)
Author: William Butler Yeats
Average review score:

I wish that Maude had Gonne sooner
He lost his virginity at the age of 51, and his poetry undoubtedly got a great deal better afterwards. Political claptrap marred his works and spoilt some vaguely pleasant ideas. I am afraid that any man who spends his entire life concerning himself with politics and Celtic twilight missed a great deal of the reality of life. However, I am inclined to attribute a great deal of this to Ms Gonne, who without a shadow of a doubt was the main factor responsible for his horrendous 'Helen of Troy' images. To any student studying this text, I would urge them to remember Dr Derek Pezrekier's pithy comment at a lecture given at Berkley University, California: "Mr Yeats - what did you spend the money on?" to which a student replied "What money?" "The money your mother gave you for brain surgery.".

Ready-To-Use Illustrations of Plants, Shrubs and Trees: 202 Different Copyright-Free Designs Printed One Side
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (October, 1995)
Author: Barry Sherman
Average review score:

Not as useful as others in the series
The illustrations in this book are not the same woodcut type illustrations typical in other books in this series. If you are looking for a good picture of a tree, I suggest you look elsewhere.

The book does contain Latin names for plants pictured, though, if this is helpful to you.
